Sardinia Grand Slam: Theo De Ramecourt keeps the top The British Connor Bainbridge advances

The second day of racing of the 2019 edition of the Sardinia Grand Slam, the last stage of the Kite Foil World Series, promoted by the International Kiteboarding Association and organized by Good Looking Entertainment and Yacht Club Cagliari, has just ended at the Poetto in Cagliari.

Unchanged the trend seen yesterday in the day of debut. With two successes on five races, and a total of 22 points, the French Theo De Ramecourt is firmly at the top of the provisional standings.

Behind him at only two points, surprisingly, we find the British Connor Bainbridge. Today in the water he was the best and entered the medal zone thanks to two race victories, a second place and two third positions.

Third, on today’s virtual podium, the reigning champion of the Sardinia Grand Slam, the French Nico Parlier.

The Poetto beach instead looks cursed for the leader of the Kite Foil World Series Toni Vodisek. The Slovenian, in five races, has collected three missed starts, one sixth and one fortieth place. The ascent to the summit now becomes really difficult, but nothing is said until the last moment!

Among women, the American Daniela Moroz continues to reign supreme, bringing herself to 93 points from second place, the very young Polish kiter Julia Damasiewicz.

Tomorrow is the third day of racing. Six tests are scheduled with Skipper Meeting at 11.00 am and the first possible start at 12.00.

The Sardinia Grand Slam World Championship is organized by Good Looking Entertainment and Yacht Club Cagliari, which deals with technical sports coordination, under the aegis of the IKA (International Kiteboarding Association), the support of the Kiteboarding Class Italy CKI, the Italian Sailing Federation and with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Tourism Department and the Municipality of Cagliari Sport and Tourism, and some private companies.

Sardinia Grand Slam: a start with French dominion

Sardinia Grand Slam: a start with French dominion

The regattas at the Poetto in Cagliari – for the 2019 edition of the Sardinia Grand Slam, the last stage of the Kite Foil World Series, promoted by the International Kiteboarding Association and organized by Good Looking Entertainment and Yacht Club Cagliari – have started.

The rehearsals, six throughout the day, started at lunchtime, after the skippers’ meeting at 11.00, with gusts of wind that fluctuated between 22 and 30 knots. In the first four races the scenario seen last week at the Formula Kite European Championship and in the other three rounds of the Kite Foil World Series repeated: the Slovenian Toni Vodisek against the strongest French athletes arrived in Sardinia.

It was a heads-up match between Vodisek, Theo De Ramecourt, Axel Mazella (fresh winner of the European title) and Nico Parlier, winner of the 2018 edition of the Sardinia Grand Slam.

At the end of the fourth race the Slovenian was first in the partial classification but the two missed starts in the fifth and sixth race, due to the breaking of the bridle given the strong wind, relegated him to fourteenth position leaving the temporary podium in the hands of France. So we have Theo De Ramecourt first with 11 points, second Axel Mazella with 13 and third Nico Parlier with 15.

First among the Italians has been the very young Lorenzo Boschetti, author of a constant test that earned him the 13th right above the current leader of the Kite Foil World Series, Vodisek.

In the women’s category, on the other hand, the forecasts have been kept from day one: Daniela Moroz wins and convinces! The US, after having dominated the Sardinia Grand Slam 2018, the European Formula Kite and presented herself in Cagliari as the undisputed leader of the Kite Foil World Series, dominated today’s races.

She has finished 18th in the overall standings, with 83 points, leaving the Polish Julia Damasiewicz, second in the women’s rankings, with 34 points behind her and putting a serious mortgage on winning the world title!

Among the Italians the best result is that of Irene Tari, 41st in the overall standings, who had already made her mark on the occasion of the recent European Formula Kite.

Tomorrow the races are going to resume on the Poetto beach in Cagliari. Skipper meeting at 11.00. Following, the first possible departure.

Yacht Club Cagliari, which deals with technical sports coordination, under the aegis of the IKA (International Kiteboarding Association), the support of the Kiteboarding Class Italy CKI, the Italian Sailing Federation and with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Tourism Department and the Municipality of Cagliari Sport and Tourism, and some private companies.

Sardinia Grand Slam 2019 is about to start

Sardinia Grand Slam 2019 is about to start

Cagliari is ready to welcome the strongest international champions of Kite Foil, the new Olympic discipline, from October 2nd to 6th, the Sardinia Grand Slam, the world final of the Kitefoil World Championship, promoted by the ‘International Kiteboarding Association and organized by Good Looking Entertainment and Yacht Club Cagliari.

Over 80 athletes from all the continents of the world are going to meet again in the Sardinian capital for what has now become a “classic” in the international Kite Foil scene. It is in fact the third year that the world champions of this discipline are crowned in Cagliari that we remind has been included by World Sailing as a sailing class that is going to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

After two years of victories by the French Nico Parlier, ruler of the Sardinia Grand Slam 2018 but mocked last year in the overall standings by the current reigning world champion Maxime Nocher, the challenge is this year even more interesting.

Surprisingly, in fact, the absolute ruler of the Kite Foil World Series 2019 is the very young Slovenian kiter Toni Vodisek, winner of the first three stages of the World Championship, silver medal at the Youth Olympics of Buenos Aires in 2018.

The Sardinia Grand Slam was preceded by Torregrande’s Formula Kite European Championship, which was staged within the Open Water Challenge 2019. On that occasion Vodisek was passed on the last day of racing by the French Axel Mazella.

The missed European title reveals the very high competitive level that we will see in the water during the Sardinia Grand Slam. It will be a battle to try to take away a title from the Slovenian, that he won’t certainly have until Sunday  October 6th.

Turning to women, the 2018 title went to Kirstyn Obrien, author of a not particularly brilliant performance at Poetto but rewarded by perseverance and by what was done during the first two stages of the KiteFoil World Series. To enchant the Sardinian public was the very young American Daniela Moroz, who this year presents herself as the athlete to beat, above all from the impressive performance at the Absolute European Championship.

The Sardinia Grand Slam was presented this morning in Cagliari, at the Regional Department of Tourism.

“We are at the halfway point of two crucial weeks for Sardinia’s role in the international Kiteboarding scenario – Mirco Babini, president of IKA – International Kiteboarding Association, added – with the inclusion of Kite Foil among the Olympic disciplines of Paris 2024, this event is becoming increasingly important in every part of the world. It is no coincidence that we are going to have in Cagliari many athletes from more than 30 nations spread over 5 continents. It will surely be a great show and in the water we will see a great fight between over the ten strongest athletes of this discipline. Nothing is taken for granted, the battle is still open”.

“We are really proud to have brought the international Kiteboarding show to Cagliari once again – said Gian Domenico Nieddu, of Good Looking Entertainment – This city is once again able to host events of this level. As for Kiteboarding, and in general sailing sports, Poetto is now recognized all over the world as one of the best spots for competitions and training. I hope that this heritage will be further enhanced in the coming years by organizing events and events “.

“The Region focuses heavily on major sporting events scheduled from October to April, which contribute concretely to the seasonal adjustment process and represent a leading sector for the regional economy,” said Giovanni Chessa, Councilor for Tourism, Crafts and Trade of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, who added – For the next Budget, I undertake to include the Sardinia Grand Slam among the great events to be supported in the coming three-year period, so that its presence can be guaranteed in Cagliari in the future. Tourism Sardinia is growing, it has a unique heritage and is well suited to all water sports, which represent a safe investment”.

The Sardinia Grand Slam Back Again!

Cagliari, August, 27, 2019 The IKA Kite Foil World Series is ready to return for the third consecutive year in Italy, in what is now globally recognized as one of the best locations to practice kiteboard in the world, Sardinia. From 2 to 6 October, the Poetto’s beach of Cagliari will be the scene of 2019 edition of the Sardinia Grand Slam World Championship, the third stage of the KiteFoil World Series!

Once again all the strongest kite athletes will arrive in the Sardinian capital, joined in the desire to win the World Title 2019.

After two years of victory by the French Nico Parlier, ruler of Sardinia Grand Slam 2018 but mocked last year in the general result by the current World Champion Maxime Nocher, the challenge has risen up again this year.

In addition to Parlier, Nocher and well-known KiteFoil champions such as Mazelle, Bainbridge, De Ramecourt and Gruber, fighting for the world title, joins the young Slovenian Toni Vodisek, who at only 19 years has already won the first stage of the race that took place from 24 to 28 July in Gizzeria.

Moving on to women, the 2018 title went to Kirstyn Obrien, author of a not particular brilliant performance at the Poetto but rewarded by the constancy and by what  she  has done at the first two stages of the KiteFoil World Series.

The Sardinian public was enchanted by the young American Daniela Moroz, who this year looks like “the athlete to beat” after she attained the 18th place in Gizzeria (first in the female category).

Put under special observation is our own Sofia Tomasoni, 2018 Olympic Champion at Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Champion of the World, Europe and Italy of TT:R (Twin Tip Race) who is taking her first steps to the world of Foil, determined to climb the charts and represent the blue colors at the great Olympic debut in Paris 2024.

Soon will be held the two Chinese stages of Weifang and Pingtan,  now considered a “cult ”of the Kite Foil World Series, to getting the overall ranking updated and figure out which athletes will compete to bring home the 2019 World Title at the Poetto’s beach in Cagliari.

Poetto beach will be the last stage of the Kite foil World Series– is the comment of Mirco Babini, President of the IKA – International kiteboarding Association, who added – with the inclusion of Kite foil in the Olympic disciplines of Paris 2024, this event is becoming increasingly important all over the world. It is no coincidence that in Cagliari we will have more than 100 athletes from more than 40 countries spread over 5 continents. Certainly, we will see a great  show in water among the 10 strongest athletes of this discipline and with the partecipation of  many young people ready to show to the world their worth.

“Cagliari and its Poetto beach are once again a reference point for the international kiteboarding; says Gian Domenico Nieddu of the Good looking Entertainment Agency – This city confirms itself  able to host hig-level events like this,  both as regards  kiteboarding, and in general  all sports with sailing.

Poetto is now recognized all over the world as one of the best place for competitions and training. I hope that in the coming years  this natural heritage  will be further enhanced  by constant strategic actions as the organisation of events.

The Sardinia Grand Slam World Championship is organized by Good looking Entertainment and the Yacht Club Cagliari, which is responsible for the technical coordination of the sport, under the auspices of IKA (International kiteboarding Association), with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Department of Tourism and of the Municipality of Cagliari and some private companies.

Sardinia Grand Slam – Day 4

The Sardinia Grand Slam speaks once again French! For the second year in a row, Nico Parlier won the Italian stage of the KiteFoil World Series!

In the only regatta of the fourth day of competitions to Parlier a second place was enough to distance the rival Maxime Nocher (third) by one point.

If last year the success at Cagliari’s Poetto he had also earned the world title, this year it has not gone the same way. The World Champion 2018 of Kite Foil is indeed just Maxime Nocher. The Monegasque could boast the full score in the ranking obtained thanks to the successes in the two Chinese stages of the competition (Weifang and Pingtan). Parlier paid a high price for his absence at the Pingtan race, which effectively excluded him from the fight for the world title.

Similar speech in the female category. The American Daniela Moroz has literally dominated the Cagliari race but the absence in Pingtan has effectively excluded her from the race for the world title. Behind her on the podium of the Sardinia Grand Slam the British Steph Bridge, followed by the Polish Nina Arcisz.

Kirstyn Obrien, World Champion 2018, is the author of a not particularly brilliant performance at Poetto but repaid by her constancy and by what she did during the first two stages of the KiteFoil World Series.

The Sardinia Grand Slam is organized by Good Looking Entertainment with the collaboration of the Yacht Club Cagliari, which deals with technical sports coordination, under the auspices of the IKA (International Kiteboarding Association), and with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia with the Department of Tourism and the City of Cagliari with the Department of Sports.

Sardinia Grand Slam – Day 3

After more than 5 hours of waiting, the third day of competition of Sardinia Grand Slam could give the emotions of a race to the public present at the Poetto to watch the final stage of the KiteFoil World Series that tomorrow will assign the titles of World Champion 2018.

The wind allowed a very short window at 17.00 before collapsing again, but it was enough to bring home the daily race. However, the difficulties were not lacking, with 5 knots of wind on shore that complicated the exit of the athletes towards the race field.

The race, which took place with an average between 7 and 8 knots, has been won by the British Guy Bridge. Behind him the Germans Jannis Maus and Florian Gruber. The eternal battle between Maxime Nocher and Nico Parlier has instead moved just below the podium and saw the Monegasque cross the finish line as fourth followed by the French. The partial classification now sees the two ones with 8 points equally, at the top of the Sardinia Grand Slam ranking. Third Florian Gruber.

Undisputed leader of the women’s classification of the third stage of the KiteFoil World Series is Daniela Moroz who once again confirmed her class and skills by imposing herself on the adversaries. Immediately after her we have, on the one hand the consolidation of the second position of Steph Bridge, on the other the great result of the young Polish athlete Nina Arcisz who managed to get back on the top and conquer the third position in the provisional classification.

That of tomorrow will therefore be a heart-pounding day. Nothing is taken for granted and everything can still happen. What’s more, to make this final day even more prestigious is going to be the presence of Sofia Tomasoni, gold in kiteboarding (TT: R discipline) at the recent Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Sofia is going to arrive at the Poetto di Cagliari directly from Argentina with the medal around her neck and will reward, at the end of the day, the 2018 World Champions of KiteFoil.
