The second day of competition at Sardinia Grand Slam has come to nothing. Unfortunately, the wind conditions did not allow regattas to take place.
The conditions have been since the morning not suitable for a regatta, with a north-east gradient wind that prevailed on the thermal breeze coming from the south. Immediately after lunch the wind turned, was in the right direction and arrived at 8/9 knots. The conditions seemed perfect but they really lasted too little to allow the start of a race.
The provisional ranking remains unchanged with Nico Parlier with 3 points followed by Maxime Nocher with 4 points. Third, seconded to 7 points, the British Connor Bainbridge. Among the women, first Daniela Moroz, followed by Steph Bridge and Julia Damasiewicz.
Forecasts for tomorrow say less gradient wind from the northeast. The thermal is much more prevalent than today and about 8/10 knots are expected. The skipper meeting with the athletes is scheduled at 11.00, the first possible departure at 12.00.

Not even today’s weather alert on the entire city of Cagliari has managed to stop the show of Sardinia Grand Slam 2018. The third and final stage of the KiteFoil World Series, which is awarding on Sunday, October 21st the world titles, has regularly begun at 14.00!
The wind and the sea, though rough, allowed two races to take place. The first one immediately after lunch and the second one at 17.30, after a stand by of a few hours made necessary to have the best conditions possible for the performing of the test.
In the first race, the Monegasque Maxime Nocher, now the number one in the ranking and favourite for the victory, immediately confirmed his leadership. Behind him, in second position, the French Nico Parlier, who, after dominating the 2017 edition of Sardinia Grand Slam, confirms his excellent feeling with the wind of the Poetto of Cagliari. Fifth the Italian Mario Calbucci.
Among the women, excellent performance by the very young American Daniela Moroz, followed by the Sardinia Grand Slam winner, Steph Bridge.
Plot twist in the second race with Nico Parlier who manages to impose himself on the British Guy Bridge. Only third Maxime Nocher. First among the Italians is once again Mario Calbucci, seventh.
At the end of the first day we then have Nico Parlier leading the standings with 3 points followed by Maxime Nocher with 4 points. Third, detached of 7 points, the British Connor Bainbridge.
Unchanged the women’s arrival order of the second race and then of the provisional ranking with Daniela Moroz first, followed by Steph Bridge and Julia Damasiewicz.

Sardinia Grand Slam: in Cagliari are to be awarded the world titles of KiteFoil
Italy and Sardinia return to be protagonists of international Kitesurfing. In its period of greatest expansion, with the debut at the Youth Olympic Games in progress at Buenos Aires and the entry as an Olympic discipline starting from Paris 2024, the movement has once again found in Sardinia and in the magnificent scenery of Poetto the ideal location to crown the 2018 World Champions in KiteFoil.
More than 70 athletes are going to come from all five continents of the world, engaged in the Sardinia Grand Slam, the third and final stage of the Kite Foil Gold Cup. The competition is to officially start today with the arrival and registration of the athletes. The races are going to begin tomorrow, Thursday 18th, and to end on Sunday 21st along with the awards for the event and the award of the world title.
The battle for the men’s title is anything but established and sees the high number of 5 athletes separated by only 11 points. The Monegasque leader Maxime Nocher is in charge, thanks to his victory in both the first two stages of the KiteFoil Gold Cup. The Frenchman Theo De Ramecourt and the British Connor Bainbridge equally follow with 7 points. The climb to the summit of the reigning World Champion Nico Parlier, who last year had dominated the Sardinia Grand Slam and won the world title, was impossible.
Among the women is presented as a favourite and leader of the standings the Russian Elena Kalinina who has in two stages put 12 points between her and the US Kirstyn Obrien. The young American Daniela Moroz was third in the title, out of the title battle. Moroz, however, has a fresh nomination for the Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.

Sono aperte le iscrizioni per l’edizione 2018 del Sardinia Grand Slam World Championship, la terza tappa della KiteFoil Gold Cup in programma dal 17 al 21 ottobre al Poetto di Cagliari.
Per la penultima tappa del circuito sono attesi oltre 100 atleti provenienti da 40 nazioni distribuite sui 5 contenenti. Tra di loro i campioni Axel Mazelle, Nico Parler e Maxime Nocher.

Il monegasco Maxime Nocher ha siglato la vittoria nella seconda tappa della KiteFoil World Cup a Pingtan, nella Cina orientale, nell’ultima giornata di gara in condizioni difficili che hanno visto forti venti e grande mare battere la pista.
La rincorsa di Nocher al titolo attualmente detento da Axel Mazella, è iniziata con la prima tappa a Weifang Binhai. Ma a Pingtan Nocher è stato ancora più dominante, riuscendo a portare a casa 10 fantastici primi posti in 13 regate che gli valgono un vantaggio davvero importante per la conquista della corona del campionato mondiale KiteFoil.
“È bello vincere due gare consecutive e sono molto felice”, ha detto Nocher, assaporando la sua seconda vittoria. “Ho avuto qualche problema oggi, quando il mio kite continuava a crollare nelle grandi raffiche, ma ho visto che posso essere veloce anche in queste condizioni.”
Nell’ultimo giorno a Pingtan, il vento è arrivato a 26kts in mare aperto, costringendo il direttivo a ridurre la gara per ragioni di sicurezza. Ma il francese Axel Mazella non si è arreso ed ha sfruttato al massimo il programma troncato. Ha afferrato una vittoria e due secondi posti che lo hanno spinto fino al secondo gradino del podio, facendo scendere in terza posizione il connazionale Théo de Ramecourt.
“E ‘stato super-duro”, ha detto Mazella. “Il vento era molto forte e rafficato là fuori. Il mio obiettivo era solo quello di terminare correttamente le gare e stare davanti a Théo de Ramecourt. È più veloce di me, ma ha avuto qualche problema con il suo kite. Sono davvero felice.”
De Ramecourt è sicuramente deluso per l’esito della sua gara. “Ho sicuramente avuto problemi con il mio kite da 9 metri, che non ho mai usato prima”, ha detto “Sono contento della mia velocità rispetto agli altri ragazzi, ma sento di essere stato limitato dai miei aquiloni. Ma per il resto, sono felice.”
La maggior parte dei 27 atleti di 16 paesi ha trovato le condizioni difficili nei tre giorni di regata. I tifoni hanno costeggiato il Mar Cinese Orientale dall’isola Pingtan di Fujian, generando forti venti e onde che hanno impedito qualsiasi regata nel giorno di apertura. La tappa della IKA KiteFoil Gold Cup è stata il fulcro del Festival internazionale di Kitesurfing 2918 di Pingtan, che ha ospitato anche i Campionati nazionali cinesi, con 70 atleti che gareggiavano nelle gare del TT:R.
Nel piccolo gruppo femminile di KiteFoil, che ha gareggiato nella forte flotta maschile, la russa Elena Kalinina si è piazzata a metà della classifica overall. Questo ha permesso all’ex campionessa mondiale di Formula Kite di conquistare il primo posto nella classifica femminile.

Il Sardinia Grand Slam è pronto a tornare
Lo spettacolo del Kite Foil internazionale è pronto a tornare nuovamente in Italia. Dal 17 al 21 ottobre il Poetto di Cagliari farà da scenario all’edizione 2018 del Sardinia Grand Slam World Championship, terza tappa della Kite Foil World Cup!
Lo scorso anno a portare a casa vittoria e titolo Mondiale fu il francese Nico Parlier che riuscì ad imporsi sul connazionale Axel Mazelle e sull’allora Campione del Mondo in carica Maxime Nocher.
La donna da battere sarà invece la britannica Steph Bridge, che lo scorso anno al Poetto si mise dietro la francese Anaïs Mai Desjardins e la tedesca Sabrina Schlossnikel.
“Quella del Poetto sarà la penultima tappa della Kite Foil Gold Cup – è il commento di Mirco Babini, presidente dell’IKA – International Kiteboarding Association, che ha aggiunto – con l’inserimento del Kite Foil Racing tra le discipline Olimpiche di Parigi 2024, questa manifestazione sta assumendo un’importanza sempre maggiore in ogni parte del mondo. Non a caso avremo a Cagliari oltre 100 atleti provenienti da più di 40 nazioni distribuite sui 5 continenti. Sarà sicuramente un grandissimo spettacolo e in acqua assisteremo ad una gran lotta tra i 10 atleti più forti di questa disciplina”.
